Rooftop chai, sitar melodies, and the pink hues of Lake Pichola

Staying in a 200-year-old restored lakeside haveli was an experience no modern chain hotel could ever replicate. Our room had jharokha bay windows looking straight out across the shimmering waters toward the Taj Lake Palace and Jag Mandir. Every evening at 5:30 PM, the haveli staff arranged masala chai and fresh kachoris on the roof terrace as a local musician played the sitar. Watching the winter sun dip behind the Aravali hills while the City Palace lit up with golden chandeliers in the twilight was pure magic. The host, Thakur Digvijay Singh, personally gave us recommendations for back-alley miniature painting artists and authentic Laal Maas in the old city that weren't on any generic travel blog. We left our hearts in Udaipur.
